The small town library was usually the quietest place in the neighborhood. Every afternoon, students came there to study after school. Mrs. Fernandes, the librarian, was known for her calm voice and patient nature.
One day, a group of teenagers entered the library laughing loudly. They pushed chairs, spoke loudly, and ignored the silence around them. Other students began to feel disturbed, but no one said anything.
Mrs. Fernandes watched them from her desk. She believed that discipline was important, but she also believed in teaching rather than scolding. Instead of shouting, she slowly walked toward the group.
When they continued making noise, she decided to admonish them gently. “This is a library,” she said with a calm smile. “People come here to concentrate. Please respect the space.” The students looked a little embarrassed, but after a few minutes they started whispering again.
Seeing this, she chose to admonish them once more, this time explaining why silence mattered. She told them how many students relied on the library to prepare for exams and how noise could affect their focus.
Her words made the group pause. One boy finally said, “Sorry, ma’am. We didn’t realize we were disturbing others.”
Later that week, the same group returned to the library. This time they sat quietly and studied seriously. When another younger student began making noise, one of those teenagers gently turned around to admonish him, repeating the same advice Mrs. Fernandes had given them.
From her desk, Mrs. Fernandes watched the scene and smiled. She realized that sometimes the best way to correct behavior is not through anger, but through patience and understanding. A simple decision to admonish someone kindly can create a lasting lesson that spreads from one person to another.
