When Rohan entered college, he was known as an energetic student who loved participating in every activity. He joined clubs, helped organize events, and was always the first to volunteer. However, during his second year, something slowly changed.
At first, his friends noticed small differences. Rohan stopped attending meetings. He ignored messages about group projects. Whenever someone asked if he wanted to help, he simply shrugged. His excitement seemed to disappear, replaced by a quiet apathy.
Weeks passed, and the apathy grew stronger. Assignments piled up on his desk, but he barely looked at them. Even when exams approached, Rohan felt strange apathy toward the results. His friends tried to motivate him, but their words seemed to bounce off his growing apathy.
One afternoon, his close friend Meera finally confronted him. “This isn’t like you,” she said gently. “Your apathy is worrying everyone.”
Rohan hesitated before answering. He admitted that he had been feeling overwhelmed. After failing one important exam earlier that semester, he had lost confidence. Instead of trying again, he slowly fell into apathy, convincing himself that nothing mattered anymore.
Meera listened carefully. She reminded him of the time he had organized the college festival, solving problems calmly while everyone else panicked. “That wasn’t apathy,” she said. “That was determination.”
Her words stayed with him. That evening, Rohan sat at his desk and opened one of the unfinished assignments. For the first time in weeks, he pushed aside the heavy feeling of apathy and focused on the task.
The change was slow but real. Over the next few weeks, he started attending classes again. His apathy did not vanish overnight, but it slowly faded as he regained confidence.
By the end of the semester, Rohan realized something important. Apathy can quietly take control when someone feels defeated, but with support and effort, it can also be overcome.
